On Saturday, December 21, 2024, Addie Stevens Terrell peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord. Addie was born on March 22. 1932 in Richmond, VA to the late Matthew and Florence Stevens. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was preceded in transitioning to heaven by her husband, the late Cecil W. Terrell, daughters Karen T. Fox and Durcellia Baylor, brother Herman Stevens, granddaughter Erica Washington, and grandson Brian Lewis.
Addie grew up in Caroline County, attended Dawn Elementary and graduated from Union High School in 1952. She attended college in Philadelphia, PA, and worked various jobs throughout her life, the most memorable include housekeeping, line worker at Holly Farm and Tyson Foods, and home healthcare nursing assistant. Addie was baptized and joined Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age. She actively served in her church, working in several ministries including the Ushers ministry, the Little Light Society, the Birthday Club, and the Kitchen Committee. She served on the Dawn Progressive Association and was recognized for her support of Boys Town. Addie was a dedicated member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed traveling to many meetings, gatherings, and conventions. She was a devout member of the NAACP, serving as Freedom Fund Queen for several years and chairperson of the Publicity Committee and in any capacity that she was needed.
Addie was the strong matriarch of her family and a friend to many. She was always available to help, to give advice, to share a drink, and to talk. She liked to travel, welcomed visitors to her home, loved talking on the phone, and enjoyed looking at television. She was strong, bold, wise, giving, and funny. Addie leaves to cherish her memory two devoted daughters, Mavis Lewis and Sonia Gregory (Gordon); two sons, Walter Terrell (Jeanne) and Kirk Terrell; devoted son-in-law Kenny Baylor, 19 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including devoted friends, Dorothy Tolliver, cousin Jearline Taylor, Evelyn Benjamin, Eloise Green, Jenny Washington, and Coral Johnson.
