Obituary

Barbara Deneen Spurell, 60 of Chesterfield, Virginia passed away peacefully on January 13th 2026 with her loving daughter by her side.  Born on October 31, 1965 to Barbara and Gus Spurell.   A long-term member of Ebenezer Baptist Church-Pastor, Dr. John W. Kinney and in recent years, became an active part of Abundant Life Church of Deliverance-Pastor Jeffrey C. Fox and Co-Pastor Anna Fox, Barbara, a devoted and loving mother to her two daughters, Sheria (Sharae Rainey) and Denesha and one daughter in Christ, Ieisha.  Barbara was nothing short of the world's best Nanny to her beloved nine grandchildren, Danajah, JaVartae, Marcellus Jr., Za'Kwan, Demani, Skye, Daveyon, Zhalen, and Zharia and her five great grandchildren, Seiryah, Emori, Aughust, Willow, and Amiri.

As the oldest sister, "Weezie" to her ten siblings, Calvin, Gus III, Earnest, Donnie, Andrea (Beth), Lonnie, Steven, Stacy, Markeese, and Shawn she was inspiring, caring, funny, and a rare precious gift of beauty, love, acceptance, and a forever friend.

Barbara was a hard-working student -athlete and graduate of Caroline High School-Class of 1985-.  Over the years, she established and maintained strong and healthy friendships that were based on loyalty, honesty, understanding, love, and fun.  Barbara's personality, thoughtfulness, giving heart, and listening ear separated her from many.  She made it quite clear that she did not have time for foolishness, she was about her business, especially as an employee.  At Lowe's, Barbara held the position of a Performance Instructor for 16 years, shortly thereafter, she obtained the position of Team Lead at Pfizer in North Carolina, Barbara was known for her strong work ethic. She was respectful, kind, dependable, knowledgeable, dedicated, efficient, and a leader who did not miss an opportunity to encourage and/or help her colleagues.

Those who truly knew Barbara, knew that her life was highlighted and revolved around her family and that she stood strong in her faith.  So, when she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in August of 2024, Barbara did not roll over and allow any room for self-pity nor negativity, because she was a woman of faith, strength, courage, and divine purpose with God given abilities. At that moment, she said a prayer, grabbed her Armor, suited up, and prepared for battle!  For she knew her fearless leader, Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ would keep and cover her with his precious blood as well as elevate her God given abilities throughout her journey.  However, along the way, he saw her getting tired and a cure was not to be.  So, he put his loving arms around her and kindly whispered, "Come with me."

Barbara's presence on Earth was truly a blessing and she made a difference in so many lives.  She will be greatly missed. May you find comfort and knowing- When Barbara was asked how she was feeling?  She smiled, as she replied, "JUST WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL!"

Barbara's mother and father, Barbara and Gus Spurell preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory:  her two daughters, Sheria (Sharae Rainey) and Denesha, ten siblings, Calvin, Gus III, Earnest, Donnie, Andrea (Beth), Lonnie, Steven, Stacy, Markeese, and Shawn,  her nine grandchildren, Danajah, JaVartae, Marcellus Jr., Za'Kwan, Demani, Skye, Daveyon, Zhalen, and Zharia and her five great grandchildren, Seiryah, Emori, Aughust, Willow, and Amiri, one daughter in Christ, Ieisha, her partner, Mac of 15 years, son in law, Herman, brother in law, Todd, one sister in law, Rashawnda, eight aunts, Mary, Betty, Juan, Francis, Phillis, Diane, Patricia, and Maxine, one uncle, Jack, five nieces, Jessica, Courtney, Ambrianna, Alanna, and Keisza, three nephews, Earnest, Brandon, and Javion as well as a host of cousins, and friends.
