Obituary

A devoted mom, "Tutu," sister, and friend, Barbara Teiber departed this life on July 22, 2025 in Richmond, VA.

Barbara was born on March 23, 1957 to Albert and Mary Ann Walton, the oldest of their 5 children. Growing up in Emporia, VA, she spent her childhood playing hopscotch along the Virginia-North Carolina state line, caring for the kittens she found around town, and daydreaming of a career as a famous singer. Barbara loved to sing, the trill of her soprano carried over any key with her natural ability to harmonize! After graduating from Greensville County High School, Barbara went to Virginia State University where she studied business and proudly graduated with honors. Barbara was passionate about education and encouraged her children, nieces, and nephews to excel in their studies, reminding them that "no one can take away what you know"!

After university, Barbara worked in finance before starting her career in public service with the Virginia Department of Taxation, retiring after 33 "long" years. She also enjoyed making jewelry, often selling out of her fabulous creations at local markets.

Barbara was a dedicated mom to Charity and Michelle, shuttling them to piano lessons, choir practices, musical rehearsals and more. She instilled in them integrity, faith, common sense, and love for the arts!

Barbara was steadfast in her faith, and was a longtime member of Moore Street Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the Sanctuary choir and helped organize events in the community.

Preceded in death by her father, Albert Walton, and mother, Mary Ann Walton, Barbara is survived by her daughters Charity (Konrad) and Michelle; her grandsons Micah and Stanis; her sisters Jeanie and Rose; her brothers Tony and Frankie; and her companion Roynold Blount. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and close friends.

She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
