Barbara Williams Coney, age 75, entered eternal rest on Friday, July 5, 2019 at the Henrico Doctors Hospital. She was born in Hampton, Virginia to the late Robert T. and Maggie W. Willliams. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Barbara attended the public schools of Richmond. She graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School. She furthered education by attending Virginia Union. She later received an Associate degree from community college.
At an early age, Barbara joined Moore Street Missionary Baptist Church. She was an active member. She was involved in the Baptist General Convention and served as the Area A Vice president. She was actively engaged with youth ministry through Richmond Junior Missionary. Barbara also served as the President of the Missionary board. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Daughter of Isis.
Barbara was very creative and organized this was extremely helpful in her Home Interiors and Wedding Planning business. Her creativity extended throughout her personal life she loved to sew, bake, and canned many of her own fruits and vegetables. Her passion was nurturing and working with children. Her strongest desire was to help them achieve and recognize their potential. She served as a substitute teacher in Richmond public schools.
Barbara was united in marriage to Jackie Ricky Coney on October 4, 1969. They are the proud parents of Marcellus Coney. She loved people and will be missed by many. She loved to travel and watch her favorite soap operas on television.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Jackie R, Coney; one son, Marcellus Coney, one step daughter, Jaqueline Coney; one foster son, Rev. Dr. Carl Johnson; one grandson, Jeremiah Coney; a beloved aunt, Fannie Williams; five brother-in-laws; Thornell Coney, Keith (Jeanette) Coney; Bernard (Yvette) Coney, Eric (Kim) Coney, and Marano Coney; two sister-in-laws, Joyce Coney-Lacy and Tonya Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many devoted friends.
