Betty Joyce (Lockhart) Tyson

82 years old

It is with heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Betty Tyson, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Betty left this world on Saturday, June 13th after an extensive battle with Crohn's disease along with other complications. She was 82 years old.

Born on May 5th, 1944 to Ira and Oakley Lockhart (nee' Keen) in the small town of Grundy, Virginia; she was the older sister to her late brother Larry Lockhart.

She is preceded in death by her father, mother, brother and 5 brothers-in-law, Freddie Tyson, Ronald Tyson, Robert Tyson, Jerry Tyson and Mason Harlow along with many aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ernest (Buster) Tyson; their only child Wayne (Lynette) Tyson; 3 grandchildren, Katherine (Jonathan) Weber, Nicholas (Summer) Tyson and Mitchell (Jennifer) Tyson; and 2 great-grandchildren, Harper Weber and Connor Weber.

Betty is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, her sisters-in-law Mary Tyson, Sharon Tyson and Joanne (Tyson) Harlow, brother-in-law Wilbur Tyson along with dear friends.

Betty was a 1963 graduate of Fluvanna High School. She worked for most of her adult life holding positions at the Binswanger Glass Corporation, Virginia DMV, Virginia Correctional Center, and Woolfolk Manufacturing. She most enjoyed her time as daycare provider for the many children that lived close to her home. There are many adults today with fond memories of Betty during their childhood and for that we feel truly blessed.

Betty's wishes were 'not to make a fuss'. We're going to honor those wishes and her request of cremation with no services planned.
