Catherine Ann Terrell Nelson was born on August 24, 1930, to the late Jubber and Rhoda Brown Terrell of Hewlett, VA. She peacefully slipped away into eternal rest on Monday, November 17, 2025.
She attended public school in Hanover, Va. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and joined Mount Carmel Baptist Church, where she served as a Missionary and served faithfully as head of the hospitality committee. She remained as a faithful member until her health failed.
Catherine and Joseph were united in marriage on August 24, 1948, in Hewlett, Va. To this union 4 children were born, Carroll, Geneva, Delois and Shelia. She is preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Joseph Nelson and her daughters Delois Vaughan and Shelia Nelson, her grandchildren; Andrew Nelson and LaTosha Nelson; her siblings, Dorothy Ford, Thelma Thomas, Charles Terrell and James Terrell, and her daughter in law Sarah Nelson.
She was employed for several years at Speed and Briscoe as head cook. She was a Supervisor at Keller's Aluminum and Ladder Company until retirement.
Catherine loved gardening and planting flowers. She loved canning and sharing the harvest she was blessed with. She was well known for being a wonderful cook. She was especially known for baking cakes and pies and having mints in her purse.
A lot of times she put the needs of others before herself. Her family was her number one priority.
She was not a woman of many words but everything she did spoke volumes.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her devoted daughter, Geneva Nelson and son Carroll Nelson; her grandsons Darrell (Joan), James Vaughan Jr. and Andre Nelson (Teauna); five great grandchildren, KeAndre' Nelson, James Vaughan III, Taliah Jennings, Tianna Jennings and London Nelson; two siblings Joseph Terrell and Betty Martin; her brother -in- law Rev. Eddie Nelson (Dottie) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
