Daries L.
Morris Jr.
Jul 6, 1948 — Jul 24, 2025
Bumpass
I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7
Daries Luther Morris, Jr. entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Henrico Doctors Hospital Hospice Care after a lengthy battle with Myasthenia Gravis.
Daries was born July 6, 1948, to the late Daries Morris, Sr. and Estella Morris in Colerain, NC. He was preceded in death by his Parents and brother William.
Daries graduated from Bertie County High School and following graduation, he attended Elizabeth City College, was a trombone player in the band. He obtained a bachelor's degree in health and physical education. In 1970, he started his career as a P.E. teacher in the Louisa County Public Schools and was also a tennis coach. The track at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School was dedicated in his honor for his devotion to children and the T J family. The faculty and students at Thomas Jefferson continued their association with him throughout his retirement and illness. His ex-Principal, Mrs. Mary Jane Clarke (92) whom he referred to as Mother visited him frequently to the end.
At age 9, Daries accepted Christ, was baptized and became a member of Piney Chapel Baptist Church. Upon moving to Louisa, Daries married Lillian Jackson Morris on June 30, 1973. To be with his wife Daries moved his membership to Mt. Zion Baptist Church in 1974 under the Pastorate of the late Rev. Raymond Johnson.
Daries was a faithful member until his health declined. His church affiliation included men's ministry president, Sunday School teacher, Men's choir, and sound system technician. He loved making CDs for friends. Although he was bedridden, he worshiped by way of zoom each Sunday.
He had two goals he wanted to accomplish: to attend Mt. Zion once more and visit Thomas Jefferson School again.
Daries bore his sickness with patience, was not a complainer and always thankful for whatever was done for him. The joy of his day was when Caregiver William Stewart arrived. He referred to William as the God Sent one.
Daries was a lover of music, a sports fan, lover of nature, loved flowers, and enjoyed watching birds and squirrels. He is remembered by many for his music played at school functions, birthday parties and weddings.
Daries leaves to cherish his memories, devoted wife of 52 years and caregiver Lilliam J. Morris, Four God children: Nigel Fife, Monica Mallory, Akia, and Rodney Morris. One brother Earl Morris, three nieces, Kenya, Kedra and Kaye Morris, Nephew Devin Morris.
Supportive nieces in law: Andrea Phillips (Kennedy) Della Nelson (Kenneth) Robbie Cosby (Thomas) Armistine Cassell (Clyde) Mildred Fife and Brenda Anderson (George). One sister-in-law, Bertha Gardner, devoted nephew in law Marvin Mallory and other relatives.
Special friends, John Carnifax, Sansberry Harvey, James Jackson, Men's chorus members, Thomas Jefferson Elementary School Staff, North Carolina friends, Ronald and Earline Mallory, Al Bodgen and Steve Montgomery. His first trio of Louisa's friends, Larry Lewis, Donald Thurston, and Lonnie Quarles.
