Obituary

Today we gather not just in sorrow but in profound gratitude to celebrate the life and legacy of Melvin Leo James, affectionately known as Scripple. From the moment he entered this world Melvin carried a light within that could not be dimmed. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Melvin loved the Lord with all his heart and gave his life to Christ at an early age while attending Bethany Baptist Church. He continued his walk with Christ at Mt. Olivet Baptist church where he remained a member with his lovely wife until the Lord called him home. Melvin became ordained as a Deacon on July 29, 2012. He was also a trustee and a member of the male chorus. He would tell anyone that was listening the promises he made to God and how God blessed him with all the desires of his heart and more.

Melvin was a leader and a source of strength to many. You could count on him to tell you to treat all people good especially the elderly. He taught us what it means to work hard, pray harder and love everyone. You could also count on him to give it to you straight. There was no cutting corners with him.

For 67 years Melvin lived his life with boldness, integrity, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. He started his career early in life working for Johnny McHockin, he then went on to spend 10 years at Tysons Food before starting his own lawn care business James Lawn Care in 1988. Melvin loved softball and was one of the best! He also enjoyed fishing and antique cars winning many trophies at local car shows.

He is proceeded in death his father Percy James and mother Helen James.
