June 8, 1930, to the late Willie B. and Martha Lewis, and was lovingly raised in Hanover County alongside her beloved brothers and sisters. She attended the one-room schoolhouse and later John M. Gandy High School.
At an early age, Hattie joined Providence Baptist Church, where she grew in her faith and remained a devoted servant of the Lord. She was always willing to help others and faithfully served in many ministries. She was the director of the Sunbeam Choir and served as secretary for the Deaconess Board, the Senior Choir, and the Women's Fellowship. In 1995, she was ordained as a Deaconess.
Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, Willie B. and Martha Lewis, and her siblings: William "Bill" Lewis, Lottie Clark, Emmette Lewis, Burton Lewis, Mitchell Lewis, Elsie Lewis, Viola Lewis, and Charlotte Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memory four children: Jerome S. Lewis, Wayne A. Lewis, Sr., Besnesta L. Lewis, and Wyndell Lewis (Tracy); six grandchildren: Wayne A. Lewis, Jr., Quintin S. Lewis, Sterlyn L. Lewis, Jaquita Lewis, Martina Gonzales (Freddie), Floyd L. Robinson, III, and Paris Lewis; three great-grandchildren: Yadiel Gonzalez, Armias Ae Robinson, and Angel Gonzalez; two brothers, Marion Lewis and Jack Lewis (Barbara); and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
