Faye D.
Derricotte
Aug 13, 1963 — Mar 7, 2025
Washington
Our beloved Faye Diana Derricotte peacefully entered eternal rest on March 7, 2025, at BridgePoint Continuing Care Hospital in Washington, DC. Born the youngest of thirteen children to the late Deacon David and Deaconess Frances Derricotte, Faye's life was a testament to love, kindness, and unwavering faith.
As the youngest sibling, Faye happily embraced her role as the "baby" of the family — enjoying more freedom, less discipline, and plenty of spoiling. She loved celebrating her birthday "down the country" in her hometown with family and friends, always wanting a big celebration. Faye cherished those moments of joy and togetherness, where laughter and love filled the air. Her birthday parties became treasured memories, reflecting the warmth and happiness she brought into the lives of everyone around her. But Faye wasn't just about receiving attention; she had a heart of gold. She lovingly cared for her parents and niece Michelle, always attending to their daily needs. Her kindness extended to everyone she met — whether offering a listening ear, lending a helping hand, or simply brightening the room with her warm smile. Faye had a natural gift for making others feel loved and supported, sharing an unbreakable bond with her family, filled with laughter, love, and endless support. Her presence was truly a gift from God.
Faye grew up in a Christ-centered home where attending church, praying, and following the Word of God were essential. This environment nurtured her faith, leading her to join the Oxford Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She attended church services, participated in Sunday School, and sang in the Little Angels Choir. She continued to love and support her church through tithing and visiting when possible. She loved Pastor Fields and would always ask, "Did you tell Pastor hello or that I asked about him?" Faye was adamant about returning to her church home to continue her spiritual journey.
Faye graduated from Caroline County Public Schools and worked several jobs before relocating to Ft. Washington, Maryland, where she worked as a Food Service Attendant with Randolph Sheppard Company. In the early 2000s, she developed a progressive form of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Although she tried her best to continue working through the side effects of this devastating illness, eventually, it became too debilitating to overcome. Even the simplest tasks — feeding herself, getting dressed, and holding a remote control — became too difficult to manage. Yet, through all she endured, Faye remained steadfast in her faith in God. She cherished visits from her family and frequently shared a scripture that became her favorite with her sister Ada, ensuring sisters Evelyn, Joyce, and Shirley held it close to their hearts as well: Jeremiah 17:14, "Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for thou art my praise."
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Deacon David and Deaconess Frances Derricotte; her brothers, Alfred Derricotte, Kenneth Derricotte, and Floyd Derricotte; her sisters, Dorothy Preston, Helen Holmes, and Gladys Armstead; her niece, T'Wanne Kirkland; and the love of her life, Wayne Grice. As Faye now rests in the arms of the Savior, she is lovingly remembered by her devoted sisters: Evelyn Flowers, Joyce Henson (Charles), Reverend Ada Lee (Sterling), Shirley Derricotte, Frances Kirkland, and Deaconess Linda Johnson (Van); her sister-in-law, Deaconess Lelia Derricotte; along with a host of supportive nieces and nephews, an abundance of cousins, and cherished friends. Though death may have parted us, our bond endures, woven into the fabric of eternity. Rest in paradise. Rest in Christ's love. We love you, Faye.
