Obituary

Garry (Rocky) E. Candler of New Kent, VA went to be with the Lord Saturday, February 1, 2025 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Lynchburg, VA to Harry and Barbara Candler. He leaves his wife, Debbie Candler, a brother Randy Candler ( Tammy), a son, Kirk Stell (Sharon), a daughter, Freda Stell (Shane), Grandchildren, Trista, Nichole, Dane (Chastity), Zeke, Maddie and Zach, five great grandchildren, a train load of cousins and an uncle, Walter Clark of Lynchburg. A celebration of Rock's life will be held February 22, 2025 at 11:00 in Richmond, VA at Victory Baptist Church, 6313 Clover Lane 23228.

Rock loved his family, his Church, his many friends and his Saviour, Christ Jesus. His life was filled with music and he had a beautiful tenor voice that he's using now in a Heavenly choir. He never met a stranger because he was either kin to them, had either worked with or for them or simply knew somebody that knew somebody. We always heard, "Hey Rocky or Hey Heavy Duty" everywhere we went!

Rock was a generous and giving man, never slow to open his wallet, his home or his heart to anyone in need. He was saved at an early age at Timberlake Baptist Church in Lynchburg and for the past 34 years called Victory Baptist Church his home church. He served as a Trustee, sang in the choir and with various groups as well as solo special music. He enjoyed operating the church sound equipment and sometimes found it a comfortable place to take a nap.

His team was the Redskins, his car, of course, #3, he liked guns and knives and cooking on the grill. His biggest enjoyment came from spending time with his kids and grandkids, talking on the phone and visiting with friends.

Rock spent his life working with and on heavy equipment. After his health no longer allowed him to pull wrenches and climb on it, he began selling it. He might forget why he went to the store but Rocky Candler could see a piece of equipment over yonder in a field and tell you the make, model, who he sold it to and how many hours it had on it!

God broke the mold making Rocky, there will never be another one like him, you'll never hear an unkind word spoken about him.
He is at last free from pain and illness, filling his lungs with Heavenly air to sing for Jesus. He truly is now waiting at the river
