Harold W
Johnson, Jr.
May 17, 1945 — Mar 5, 2025
God called our beloved, Harold Wade Johnson, Jr., aka "JR" home on March 5, 2025. Harold was born to the late Harold and Minnie Johnson, in Newton, VA on May 17, 1945. He accepted Christ at an early age at Jerusalem Baptist Church. Although he did not regularly attend, he loved the Lord. In his later years, he reactivated his membership and remained a member until his passing.
Shortly after graduating from Central High School, Harold relocated to Northern Virginia and accepted a job with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), where he worked as a transit operator and shift manager for approximately 30 years before retiring and returning to King & Queen County.
Harold had a generous heart, and lived a life full of love and humor. Although a humble man, he was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A devoted grandfather, Harold was the embodiment of kindness, always going above and beyond to offer a helping hand or a word of encouragement. His unwavering love for his family was evident in everything he did. He had a heart of gold, and his gentle nature touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a support to many, never complained, was always warm, compassionate, and would literally give the shirt off his back, for friends and family.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Thelma Latney and Sheila Morton. Harold loved both of his parents so much that he acted as primary care giver for both of them when they became ill. Harold loved both of his sisters with all of his heart and enjoyed playing cards and lotto with them before they passed.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his daughter, Kimberly Randolph, his son, Corey Johnson, his two granddaughters, Keira and Kalea Randolph, his brother, Manuel Johnson. Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Each of whom were fortunate to experience his boundless love.
Finally, we extend our deepest gratitude and special thanks to Nurse Ashley Hogan of Affinity Hospice Services & Gloria Oni and Patience Samuel of Glow Cares LLC for their compassionate care during his final days. We are also most grateful for the planning assistance provided by First Lady Aunt Pamela Beasley and Aunt Roberta Hopkins.
