Hazel Elois Green was born in Brunswick County, VA. on May 20, 1947 to Walter and Hester Prince. She was preceded in death by her father Rev. Walter Reed Prince Sr., mother Hester Virginia Prince, brother Rev. Walter Reed Prince Jr., sister Esther Corrine Prince, and life long companion Jesse James Harris Jr.
Hazel attended the Brunswick County school system and later graduated from Armstrong High School in Richmond Va. At the early age of nineteen she moved to the big city of Washington, DC. For many years she worked for the Library of Congress while pursuing a nursing degree. Hazel worked many years with the Alexandria, Va. public school system. She later changed professions and became a Social Worker for over 30 years with DC Government-where she worked until retirement. Most people would not know that she was apart of the Eastern Stars (Masons), Gethsemane Chapter. Accepting Christ at an early age, she was devoted to serving Christ.
She was an active servant of the Lord where she served on the Usher board for many years and performed many acts of kindness. Those that knew her, knew the kind spirit that she possessed. Although, she may not have said what you wanted to hear, she meant well. Hazel touched all those around her and anyone that knew her knew she had a spirit of a gentle giant. Her strong presence lit up the room and her laughter filled the air. She was everyone’s favorite Auntie, Sister, and Friend because one could look forward to a good tongue thrashing. How could one person have so much personality in such a little frame? She will be deeply missed and her presence will forever be cherished and will live on forever.
She leaves to cherish her son Brian Green, daughter Brandie Green, God-daughter Ericka Yarborough, Step-daughters Sophia Ann Green, Jennie Cook, three grand-daughters Janiaya Armstong, Sakara Eel, Diamond Eel, four grandsons Machi Green, Solomon Eel, Brian Cook-Green, and Ravana Eel. She also leaves to cherish four sisters Rev. Mavis Prince, Macey Prince Swinson (Calvin), Alice Dabney (Clyde), Velda Jackson (Richard), two brothers Rev. Jonathan Prince (Augusta), Rev. Dr. A. Carl Prince (Princess) and a host of nieces, nephews, family and freinds. And as she would “one thing is for sure and two things for certain Everybody road down interstate 95 for me Today” Ewww!!!
