Herbert Grayson White, Jr. (short dog)was born on February 9th, 1943, to the union of Herbert Grayson White, Sr and Mary M. White, of Glen Allen, Virginia. He attended Virginia Randolph up until grade 10, he was also employed at Colony House Furniture and later went on to enroll in the armed forces where he served as a supply handler and expert sharpshooter, he served one year reserve and two years active duty.
He came out with a good conduct medal. Before joining the military he met and married his then wife, Shirley Mae Green and from this union, they had four children. Herbert Gracelyn White, Jr., Jacqueline Renee Manley, Sophia Robinson and Vincent Monroe White. Although they later divorced, they remained dedicated to raising their children.
After leaving the military Herbert (June)White went to school to peruse a truck driving career. With his skills and training he secured a job which relocated him and his family to Philadelphia, PA. Pennsylvania and New Jersey would become his permanent residence until his passing.
Herbert (June) White was an avid sports fan. Philadelphia Eagles was his primary team but he always bragged that because he was from Virginia, Redskins was his secondary team. He loved race cars, boxing, visiting flea markets and shopping at antique stores. He was well versed on current events and the Black power movement. He kept and cherished memorabilia representing black history events and he idolized Mahummad Ali as well as other influential and prominent sports figures.
Herbert Grayson White (our father) departed this life on September 23rd, 2019. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Grayson White, Sr. and his brother William Garfield White. He is survived by his mother Mary Brown, sisters: Delores Green (Herman) and Mary Moore (Foster). His four chilren, Herbert (Jimmie) White, Jackie Manley, Sophia Robinson and Vincent White (Alicia). 12 Grandchildren: Corey, Jessica, Ashley, Shirai, Mercedes, Kallen, Summer, Sidney, Raymond, Jamelle, Justice & Anthony. Great Grandchildren: Corvonte, Courtney, Skylah, Jeremiah, Christian, Kylie, Elijah, Marcus, London, Paris, KaiAnn, Sammy, and Snow, A host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
