Obituary

Bowing in humbled submission to the will of our Heavenly Father, Rev. Herman Trueheart departed his earthly life on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026, to be with the Lord.  Lovingly known as Daddy, Papa, Bubba and Suke, was born in King William County on February 26, 1935, to the late Alfonza Trueheart and Carrie Hardy.

As a lifelong member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, he accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age.  As a commitment to his faith, he served as Trustee, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Associate Minister, Evangelist at many churches, and Interim Pastor at Second Baptist, Mount Carmel and Brown Grove Baptist Church.

Herman worked in construction for many years before retiring from Overnight Transportation after 27 years of service. He enjoyed masonry and even built their family home alongside his wife, he enjoyed riding motorcycles with friends, singing with various gospel groups such as the Oak Grove Men's Chorus and Amen Corner, and even performing solos during that time. He also enjoyed sports, especially baseball & softball and served as coach to the girl's neighborhood team known as the Green Hornets.

Though Herman was small in stature, he had a huge presence and an even bigger personality. Everyone who met him loved him, and he will truly be missed. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a zeal for life, and a deep commitment to his faith. Kindhearted and generous, he served as a mentor to many throughout his life's journey.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife for 71 years, Helen Trueheart. He was preceded in death by one son, Spencer Trueheart. He leaves behind one son, Wilbur Trueheart, and one daughter, Michelle Trueheart; seven sisters: Bernice Thornton, Rose Moore, Elaine Hardy, Jane Holmes, Janet Royal, Margaret Gayles (Willie), and Brenda Temple.  Two sisters, Helen Coley and Ida Washington, preceded him in death. Sister-in-law, Florence Burton (Willie); aunt-in law, Ophelia Thornton; and uncle-in-law, Douglas Thornton. He was especially blessed to leave a lasting legacy through his beloved Grandchildren: Latonya (Donald), Lolita, Jaquez, Aleck, Kenneth, Gabriel, Naija and Vivian. Great Grandchildren: Amaya, Christian, Ameia, Mychael, Ambria, Jayla, Silas, Jahlil, Micah, Israel, Aliyah, and Fifth-Generation Grandchildren: Kyaro and Ka'saun. He leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory and the love he shared throughout his life.
