Irvin Hiram Clarke was born in Hanover County to the late Hiram and Lucille Clarke, on August 7, 1931. He was the youngest of four children; and was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and William (Hike) Clarke.
He attended Hanover Training School until he began working with his father on their farm. He later entered the United States Army where he served from 1954 to 1956.
Irvin was baptized and joined Abner Baptist Church at an early age. He was a faithful member worked on Counting Committee until his health began to fail
He married Yvonne Johnson Clarke on July 28, 1956. They were married for sixty three years. He loved to watch TV, talk on the phone, joke with his family, and eat his ice cream every night. He loved being with family and celebrating birthdays and holidays. Loved talking about places traveled in his 10 Wheel.
Irvin leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Yvonne J. Clarke; three children, a devoted son, Lestor Gordon (Brenda), Michael Phillips and Wallace Deborous (Shirley); one sister, Mary Johnson (Doctor P); one brother-in law, Alphonso(Bug) Johnson; three sisters-in-law, Beulah Johnson, Margo Thaniel and Janice Giles (T. Allen); as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren,
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
