Obituary

James Henry Cary, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on July 9, 2025.  He was born on July 12, 1934, in Hanover County, VA to the late James H. Cary Sr, and Gladys T. Cary.

James is proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers: John and Leon Cary, one sister Rebecca C. Brown. James received his formal education at John M Gandy High School in Ashland Va, where he met his high school sweetheart Vernell Thaniel, they were married on August 1, 1953, to this union four children were born.

James pursued a career as a night foreman at Richfood Company. Shortly after starting at Richfood, James started a Refuse Business that he operated during the day while continuing to work at night.  He dedicated 12 years of service to Richfood Company before following his passion for trucking.  He successfully ran his own trucking business for more than 30 years until retiring.

He found joy in life's simple pleasures, including watching wrestling, spending time at the casino, family gatherings and exploring new places through travel.

James joined Jerusalem Baptist Church, Doswell VA at an early age and later moved his name to Bethany Baptist Church, Montpelier VA, November 16, 1969.  He attended church regularly until his health failed him.

James leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife Vernell T. Cary; two daughters, Vanessa C. Adams, Jacqueline C. Miller (Michel), two sons, Johnny R. Cary and Darryl W. Cary (Sheryl).  Seven Grand Children; Twelve Great-Grand Children. Three sisters in law: Naomi White, Lora Thompson & Vernon Thaniel and host of nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends.
