Obituary

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." Matthew 25:23

On April 5, 2026, Easter Sunday, Joseph "Joe" Clinton Terrell peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Joe was born on August 12, 1934, in Washington, D.C., to the late Jubber and Rhoda Brown Terrell.

Joe was a man of character, known for his quiet strength, warm spirit, and deep commitment to those he loved. Whether through his guidance, his humor, or simply his presence, he made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a cherished grandfather. His life was rooted in family, and he found his greatest joy in spending time with those closest to him—creating memories that will be treasured for generations.

Joe spent much of his life in Virginia, where he built a strong legacy through hard work and dedication. He worked as a career logger for Flippo Lumber Corporation before establishing his own logging business. On April 11, 1971, Joe was united in marriage to Annie Coleman, with whom he shared a life grounded in love, faith, and family. On May 26, 1984, Joe was sealed to his beloved wife Annie and their daughter, DeShanda, in the Mormon faith at the Washington, D.C. Temple, marking a sacred and enduring commitment to both his family and his faith.

After retirement, Joe devoted himself fully to his faith, sharing the Word of God and encouraging others through his testimony and daily walk.

Joe was also a sports enthusiast. He was a fan of the Miami Dolphins, but more than anything, he loved baseball. Having played the sport in his youth, he carried that passion throughout his life, proudly supporting his favorite team, the Atlanta Braves. In addition to his love for sports, Joe was a self-taught guitarist who found joy in music and often expressed himself through playing, adding yet another layer to the warmth and creativity he shared with others.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Ford, Thelma Thomas, Charles Terrell, James Terrell, and Catherine Nelson; and his son, Russell Terrell, and granddaughter, Jasmine Jefferson.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory his loving family: his devoted wife, Annie C. Terrell; his children, Cynthia Lee (Al), Joseph C. Terrell Jr., Josephine Wilson (Edward), Ray Terrell, Renita Townes (Arthur), Jeffrey Mills and DeShanda Artis (Adrian); his grandchildren, Alron Lee, Sr., Rico Lee, LaSharra Boddie, Juanita Mines, Jennifer Jones, Essence Jones, Storm Terrell, Ryan Wyatt, Raelisha Wyatt, Joshua Terrell, Secret Terrell, Terrance Smithers, Alicia Artis, and Adriana Artis; 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; sister Betty Martin; in-laws Oliver Coleman (Phyllis), Edward Coleman, Sr. (RuthAnn), Elizabeth Harris (McKinley), and Marie Johnson; devoted friends and extended family, including Robert Thomas, Jr., Ernestine Rollins, William Brooks, and Alvin Walsh (Cindy); along with a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.

He will be remembered for his kindness, his resilience, and the love he gave so freely. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

We are reminded that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and through Christ, eternal life is promised.
