Obituary for Kenneth W. Derricott

With God as his guide, Kenneth Wayne Derricott slipped quietly into eternal rest on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Bon Secours Regional Memorial Hospital, Mechanicsville, VA.

He was born on August 7, 1957 in Caroline County, Virginia to the late Deacon David and Deaconess Frances Derricott. Kenny grew up in a loving home environment with twelve siblings of whom two (Dorothy and Ronnie) are deceased. Kenny received Christ early in life through Oxford Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was educated in Caroline County Public Schools.

Known in the community as “Disco” and to his family as “Kenny Wayne,” he was always full of life, bringing joy and a smile to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He had a nickname for most of his nieces, nephews and friends; making jokes, sharing stories and always fussing about who’s right or wrong. Kenny’s motto for life was “Don’t complain, just deal with it. It is what it is.”

Kenny worked various jobs in the surrounding area (including Tatum Hauling, Fiberglass, Petro Truck Stop) but his greatest love was working hands-on as a community mechanic and home handyman. He spent many days assisting Rev. Johnson with painting, woodworking, plumbing, auto mechanic work and fellowshipping in the community. He looked forward to helping with parking for Oxford’s annual homecoming and took great pride in just being a parking attendant for the day.
Kenny leaves to cherish his memory, ten siblings. Linda Johnson(Van), Floyd Derricott(Lelia), and Gladys Armstead of Ruther Glen, VA; Rev. Ada Lee(Sterling) of King George, VA; Shirley and Faye Derricott of Washington, DC; Joyce Henson(Charles), Helen Holmes and Evelyn Flowers of Maryland; and Frances Kirkland of Georgia. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, among them his close neighbors, Gilbert Minor, Raymond Burruss, Caretaker Cheryl Bailey and best friends Calvin Robinson and Jimmy Hicks. He had a special bond with his devoted friend and neighbor Rev. Carlton Atkins(recently deceased).

My angel came and said to me “Everything will be alright” then the angel carried me home and set my spirit free
