Kevin Earl
James
Jan 6, 1984 — Feb 17, 2025
Kevin Earl James was born to Sabine Sauer James and Earl McKinley James in Germany, on January 6, 1984. He transitioned peacefully in his sleep and completed his earthly journey on Monday, February 17, 2025.
Kevin was nicknamed Button Nose by his grandmother Nannie. Others included Superman – because he was in disguise like Clark Kent and Oreo, which honored his African American as well as his German Heritage. He spent his early childhood in Germany. He loved to go to his Opa's and Oma's house to spend time with them, play with the neighbors' children and his cousins. He was fluent in German and enjoyed going to German Kindergarten classes.
Educated in the Chesterfield County Public School system, Kevin attended the Chesterfield Technical Center and obtained a Certificate of Completion in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Kevin was very talented and while at the Technical Center, he was part of a team that created robotics that were showcased at the Richmond Convention Center. He graduated from Thomas Dale High School in 2003. After completing his high school education, he continued his educational journey by obtaining his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from E.C.P.I University in 2012. In his younger years, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Pack 178.
Kevin accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church. While on his journey, he would often speak of the churches he would visit and was especially excited about attending services at many churches in Richmond.
Kevin loved animals and he loved to immerse himself in his hobbies, especially art, drawing, computers, watching sports and fixing things. You could also catch him doing his word search puzzles, listening to music and spending time with his family. He was always talking about taking care of his "little brother Steven" with whom he shared a special relationship. He cherished the times with his cousins and especially when family would get together.
Kevin was very special, to all who knew him. He was proud and very independent. He was blessed with a servant's heart and was always willing to offer a helping hand. While he may not have had a lot, he would give you the shirt off his back. Of the many accomplishments that he achieved during his lifetime, he esteemed his street family, which he would often bring with him to family gatherings just to make sure they had a place to stay as well as be surrounded by family. He never desired to be the focus of attention but was always willing to lend his support.
He will be missed by all who were blessed with the gift to be in the presence of his beautiful light. He had many devoted and caring family members and friends, and he cherished his time with those he met while on his journey. Uncle Kevin will be missed in playing with his nieces and nephews. Every year he never missed a beat with giving something for birthdays and Christmas whether it was a hand drawn card or some trinket that he'd managed to buy. He will be remembered for his kind soul, generous spirit, and the love he shared with all who knew him. Kevin was blessed with a large and loving family that will dearly miss him but celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Creator.
Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents (Oma and Opa) - Robert and Lieselotte Sauer, Earl L. James Sr. and Clara Mildred James(Nannie) and Ruby Harris Spencer. Aunts Belinda James, Cinderella James Wyatt and Deborah Spencer Hernandez and special Uncle Percy "Lott" James.
