Obituary

Larry Joe Carter, age 56, departed this life much too soon on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. He was born on August 22, 1969, to Betty Carolyn Carter, the late Joe Stanley, and the beloved late Wilbur Moore, who raised him.

Cherishing his memory are: his loving wife, Linda Morris Carter of Louisa, Virginia; his mother, Betty Carolyn Carter of Spotsylvania, Virginia; his two sons, Delonte "Noon" Johnson and Kendell Carter; his two daughters, Kiana Carter and Tara Carter, both of Spotsylvania, Virginia; his stepdaughter, Shannon Fowler (Burton) of Louisa, Virginia; his granddaughter, Layla Johnson; his step-grandson, Braxton Fowler, who called him "Papa Joe"; his three sisters, Jonessa Carter, Christy Carter (Adam), and Salita Carter (Spencer), all of Spotsylvania, Virginia; his nephews, DeJohn Coleman and Cameron Carter; his niece, Nivaya Carter; his two aunts, Ann Carter and Frances Carter; and his uncle, Mike Carter.

Larry held deep love for his wife, mother, children, and family. He lovingly helped care for his wife's 88-year-old mother, Mary Morris, and was known for his caring and dependable nature.

He enjoyed building and working with his hands, especially building sheds and working on his classic 1973 Chevy truck. Larry also had a deep love for cooking and could spend hours watching cooking shows. He especially enjoyed frying chicken for family and friends, a meal his wife always enjoyed and appreciated.

Larry loved music, dancing, and bringing smiles to those around him. Whether at family gatherings or simply enjoying the moment, his lively dance moves often entertained everyone around him. He enjoyed spending time with those closest to him and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, for their care, compassion, and attention shown to Larry during his time there.

In accordance with his wishes, Larry will be laid to rest at the newly established Morris Heritage Cemetery at his home in Louisa, Virginia.
