Lenora A. Chambers, 77, of Fairfax, VA, passed away on April 11, 2026. Born in Orange, New Jersey on March 29, 1949, was the daughter of Leornard and Bernadine Alexander (nee Owens).
Lennie graduated from Orange High School and went on to Rutgers University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English 1971. While there, she met John W. Chambers a student at Princeton University whom she married in 1970 and had two daughters Tonya and Keisha.
Lennie settled in the DMV area in 1979 to raise her daughter's while working at Hewlett Packard in Rockville, MD. She transitioned to public service in the early 1990s and retired from Arlington County Public School System in 2018.
Lennie was an avid reader, a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed attending performances at the Kennedy Center and Arena Stage in Washington DC.
Remaining to cherish Lennie's memory are (is survived by) daughters, Tonya Washington and Keisha Chambers; grandchildren, Eric Washington Jr., Khaiah Dericho, Omar Washington, and Khamani Washington; siblings, Bette (David) Brooks, Beverly (Richard) Barlin, Leonard Z. Alexander, Jr., Cornelius Alexander, Juanita Davis, John Alexander, Valerie Alexander, Lorna Alexander and Bernadette Alexander; and lifelong friends Nancy Montgomery and Freddie Ellis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Bernadine Alexander; siblings Larry Alexander and Adrienne McKinnis; and son-in-law Eric Washington, Sr.
A celebration of life will be held in Newark, New Jersey in August. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
