Obituary

On January 20, 2025, Margo Johnson Thaniel, departed this life and peacefully went home to be with the Lord. She is the beloved daughter of the late William and Lillie Johnson. In July, 1946, at an early age, Margo was baptized and gave her life to Jesus Christ. Margo became a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church where she served on the Usher's Ministry for many years.

Margo grew up in Montpelier , VA where she attended John M. Gandy school and graduated as Valedictorian of her class. Margo was the eighth child of nine siblings. She continued her studies at Virginia State University where she graduated as Magnum Cum Laude of her graduating class and majored in Education and Library Science.

Later after moving to Glen Allen, VA, Margo moved her membership to Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Glen Allen, She was a faithful member and served her church well. She joined the Women's Missionary where she loved visiting the sick and shut-in, Margo also served on the Church Collections team.

Margo married the late Thomas Thaniel, Jr and from that union a daughter, Sharon Dolores was born. Margo went on to complete a Masters of Science program at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1985. She was employed with the Richmond Public Schools where she worked for 32 years as a Librarian and Teacher. Margo retired in May of 1995. Not able to just sit at home, post-retirement, Margo began working at Ashley Terrance Apartments in Richmond, VA as a rental consultant in 1997 where she worked until 2012.

Margo Johnson Thaniel was preceded in death by her Parents, William and Lillie Johnson; Brothers, William W. Johnson, Howard B. Johnson, Alphonso (Bug) L. Johnson and Wallace Johnson; Sister, Shelia J. Clarke and Yvonne J. Clarke. She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted and loving daughter , Sharon Dolores, devoted Goddaughter, Tracy Nygard, family of a devoted brother, Doctor P. Johnson; a devoted sister, Janice Johnson Giles; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Margo was a loving and devoted Mother, Godmother, Daughter, Sister, Friend, and Auntie. She was loved and cherished by all of her family and friends. She was showered with so much love and she thanked God for it.

Rest in peace our love. We loved you so much but God loves you best.
