Obituary

Marion Lillian Allen Benjamin was born on October 11, 1931. She departed her earthly vessel on January 23, 2025. She was educated in Richmond Public Schools and then received her Bachelor of Arts degree (English) from Virginia Union University, Summa Cum Laude, in 1953. Additionally, she attend the Medical College of Virginia to attain her Certification in Radiology.

Marion loved the Lord. She accepted Christ at an early age enriching her spiritual growth at Bethlehem Baptist Church. She dedicated her time as the treasurer of the Church and financial secretary of the daycare. She also served on the Royal Usher Board for over thirty years and she was a member of the senior choir. She had eighty-three years of membership and was a third generation member. Upon her death she was the oldest member of Bethlehem.

Known for her quick wit, love for education, and service, she furthered her community service through her professional pursuits. She spent time as an educator in the public school system and office manager and X-ray Technician for Dr. Herbert Galston.

She proceeded in death by her parents, Luther Clarence Allen and Alice Morgan Allen, and her two brothers Sterling and John. She is survived by her children Karen Benjamin Young (Earl), Debra Benjamin Winston (Aubrey), and Walter Benjamin Jr. (Sherry); five grandchildren Shannon Johnson, Javon Saunders (Krishaunda), Dennequa Benjamin, Sydney Benjamin, and Jalen Benjamin; four great-grandchildren Jakayla Saunders, Jakira Saunders, Ja'el Lincoln, and Kyree Saunders; and five siblings Constance Robertson, Antoinette Edwards, Audrey Clanton, Diane Jones, and one devoted brother Aubrey Allen, Sr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love. The Lord is our Shephard. Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning when we meet again.
