Mary "Bay Girl" Lewis Griffin earned her wings on June 25, 2026. She was born on April 7, 1943, in Glen Allen, Virginia.

Mary graduated from John M. Gandy High School in 1961. She went on to attend Virginia Union University, graduating with the Class of 1966. It was at Virginia Union University that she fell in love with tennis. On the tennis courts, she was known for her exceptional drop shot.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved parents Samuel Lewis and Elizabeth Lewis.

She is survived by her loving son, Shawn L. Griffin (Dana); two grandchildren, Shawn M. Griffin and Danita J. Griffin; one great-granddaughter, Olive Belle Alston-Griffin; one sister, Betty Johnson; her sister-in-law, Eleanor Lewis; a host of nieces and nephews; and her devoted friend, Julie Rhodes.

Mary worked for the United States Postal Service as a Maintenance Control Technician for 48 years before retiring on May 29, 2015.
