Obituary

Mary "Lillie" Brooks, 92, a beloved and devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home on March 25, 2025, at her home in Glen Allen, VA surrounded by family. She was born on May 10, 1932, to the late Thomas and Rosa B. Brown in Montpelier, VA.

Mary was raised in Hanover County, where she attended Bethany School. Mary accepted Christ at an early age at the Bethany Baptist Church. She then later married and became a faithful member of Abner Baptist Church. Over the years she served as a member of the Missionary Ministry, a member of the OASIS, and various choirs. She loved her church family and remained a faithful member until her death. She was always willing to serve for the Lord.

She worked for Reynolds Metal for 30+ years where she later retired. A beautiful soul and light to all, Mary cherished spending time with her children and other relatives, whether it be traveling or gathering at her home for a great card game. She always prioritized her family ensuring that each day was filled with love, home-cooked meals, and a home to all. She truly made the most out of every day whether it be fishing, catching a flight, at bingo, or at the casino.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband William Lee Brooks Sr, her daughter Faye Lewis, her parents Thomas and Rosa B. Brown, brothers William and Joseph Brown, and other loved ones who have gone to glory.

She is survived by five generations; six children, Ann Harris (Howard), Brenda Coleman, Rosa Miller, Theresa Brooks, William Brooks Jr. (Kimberly), Shelly Dunaway (Gregory); one sister, Sarah Gaines; three brothers, Robert Shelton (Jane), Douglas Shelton, Junius Shelton (Shirley); devoted sister-in-law, Gessner Canadiate; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, seventeen great great grand-children; devoted family caregivers, LaKeeshia Pope, Rosa Huggins, Chanay Mallory, Zamia Pope; devoted loved one, Ronald Jackson; devoted aide, Wanda Coleman; many other family and friends that she loved and cherished.
