The Story of a Virtuous Woman

Heaven is pleased to welcome one of its newest residents, Mary Ellen Scott Fountain, who transitioned peacefully from this life on January 29, 2025, after a gradual decline in health. Mary was born on December 8, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Alex Scott and Helen McDaniel. She was the oldest of nine children. Mary received her education in the Hanover Public School System.

At an early age, Mary accepted Jesus as her Lord and Saviour and was baptized at Bethany Baptist Church in Montpelier, Va. Mary moved to Hanover County Virginia where she met and married the love of her life, Alvin C Fountain, on July 1, 1963. Together they have five children.

Mary worked as a machine operator at Union Envelope for many years. After retiring from Union Envelope, Mary worked for the family business Fountain Construction. Mary's greatest pleasure was hosting her family and friends which made her heart glad, you could count on enjoying a great meal and entertainment. She loved working in the yard and gardening and hearing the latest news from everyone and giving advice.

Mary was a wonderful caregiver, caring for the sick and housing many. It gave Mary great pleasure to care for her Grandmother, Ellen E. Harris, who raised her. Mary had one grandson, Jason Scott Harris, two sisters Henrietta Servance and Cecelia Knight and one brother Larry McDaniel, six Sister/Aunts, Gladys Harris, Elsie Richardson, Catherine Davis (Melvin), Emma Cannon (Moses), Mable Kizzie (Lequre) and Selina Austin (Harry) who proceed her in death.

Mary was a devoted church member, until her health began to fail. She loved going to church and dressing for the occasion. She was best known for her role as a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, loving and nurturing her family like no other. As her health declined, she often said, take care of your daddy and one another. She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her devoted husband Alvin Fountain, three daughters, Sheila Watkins, Deborah Hicks and Selena Fountain, two sons Cornelius Fountain and Maurice Fountain (Saprina). Seventeen grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, four sisters Anna Hough, Marion Cousin, Stephanie Drayton and Rhoda Robinson (William), one brother David McDaniel (Linda), two godchildren, Tamara Jenkins and Samantha Stokes, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. God knew the road was getting rough, a cure was not to be, her heavenly Father whispered: Come home my child and be at rest with me.
