Matilda Ann
Hence
Mar 21, 1944 — Mar 21, 2026
Aylett
2 Timothy 4:7: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
Matilda Ann Hence, also known as TillAnn or Tip, was born March 21, 1944, in King William County, Virginia in a small town called Beulaville. She was the youngest to be born out of 8 siblings to the late Eddie and Susie Paige.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her lord and savior and was baptized at an early age. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church, where she served on the food and hospitality committee. She was a member of the Senior Choir and J.L. Hobson Memorial Choir. She also sung with the Ever-Ready Gospel Singers which included her sisters, brother-in-law and other family members. She attended public school in King William County.
While surrounded by her children and grandchildren, celebrating her birthday, Matilda was called home to her eternal rest. Waiting for her are her parents, Susie and Eddie Paige; 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
She was employed with Holiday Inn for 20+ years. She finished out her working years and retired from Ukrops's as a cook/deli worker. She was loved by all her fellow co-workers and shoppers.
She loved hearing her children sing and also loved singing herself. You could often hear her praising the Lord in the JL Hobson and Senior Choir Singing Jesus, Oh What a Wonderful Child, Remind Dear Lord, and Get Away Jordan.
She loved to cook and care for her friends and family. Often asking if you were hungry, because there was food on the stove. She loved to dance and was one of the best dancers back in the day. She loved to watch the daytime soaps and her westerns, and do not call her if they were on. Most of all spending her Sunday evening after church with sisters and her family. Laughing about the good ole days.
Left with only memories and the ones who hold her legacy, Daughters Sheila Robinson and Diane Hence, Son Dwayne Hence. Grandchildren, Tiffany Hence, Dionté Johnson, Rashad Taylor and Grandpup Charlie. One Sister Deaconess Evelyn Jackson, and a host of Nieces and Nephews; many other relatives and friends.
