Monique T
Brown
May 18, 1983 — Feb 24, 2026
Rocky Mount
Monique Tameka Brown entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. She was born to Julia Wilkerson-Johnson and Robert Tarrer on May 18, 1983 in Richmond, Virginia. She was preceded in death by Lillian Wilkerson-Edwards (maternal grandmother) and Mary Tarrer (paternal grandmother), brother Marvin Johnson Jr., aunt Bessie Braxton and uncles Virgil Edwards, Michael Edwards and Waverly Tarrer. She was baptized at a young age at Oak Grove Baptist Church where she was a part of the Sunshine Ushers and Inspirational choir.
Monique attended King William High School for a period of time before she moved to Caroline County, where she graduated from Caroline County Public Schools in 2001. Over the years, Monique was employed at Richmond Pediatrics, UPS, Capital One, Aetna/CVS and most recently, Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Her work ethics and personality made her a respected employee and friend.
Monique enjoyed her life to the fullest. She was a loving and kind hearted person who always wore a pleasant smile. One of her favorite things to do was call her mother 50 times a day to talk about any and everything. Outside of spending quality time with her children, RJ and Kelis aka her noodles, Monique loved laughing and joking with her family. Although she would arrive late to (most) family functions, she was always the last piece to the puzzle to having a great time. If you were around Monique long enough, you should know about "Tina the Tantalizing Tummy" and how she had a love/hate relationship with it.
Monique had a creative spirit and loved doing crafts. When she wasn't making sweet treats for families or community events, she would create custom clothing and other items as she continued to expand her brand "The Ebony Orchard."
Monique leaves to cherish her memories: Her loving and devoted parents, Julia Wilkerson-Johnson and Marvin Johnson of Caroline County, VA and Robert and Vanessa Tarrer of Rocky Mount, NC; One devoted son, Rodriquez "RJ" Pleasants Jr.; One devoted daughter, Kelis Jewelle Brown; Paternal grandmother, Mary Jones; Four loving sisters, Charelle (Jawain) Harris, Jessica Johnson, Asha Tarrer and Myana Tarrer, all from Rocky Mount, NC; Five loving brothers, Joshua (Timara) Johnson, Roderick (Nicole) Jones, Robert Jones, Quashun Coppedge, and Sharkeem Jones, all from Rocky Mount, NC; Aunts, Janette (Edward) Washington, Sophie (Alvin) Moses, Edith Trent, Diane Tarrer, and Doris Smith; Uncles, Michael (Barbara) Tarrer, Charles Tarrer, Melvin (Mary) Johnson, and David Johnson.
