Obituary

Rosetta Lee Beynum was born January 8, 1929, in Caroline County to the late Beatrice Lee Cammack Beynum and Walter Lewis Beynum. She had an extremely close relationship with her three brothers, Harold, Walter, and Carlese Beynum, who have all gone to be with the Lord. Rosetta joined them on September 26, 2025 after a blessed 96 years of life on earth with her family and friends.

Rosetta's closeness with her siblings was identified by the sultry music they made, as Rosetta started singing with her brothers by the time she was six years old. Around the same time, she joined Mount Oni Baptist Church, and became a member of the choir when she was 11 years old. Rosetta continued to sing in the choirs at Mount Oni and Second Baptist Churches, where her husband was a member for over 50 years.

Rosetta attended the No. 8 School until the 8th grade. She decided she no longer wanted to attend school but preferred to enjoy her hobbies. During those times Rosetta's hobbies included cooking, shopping, and raising gardens. A few years later she met Ginial Harry Minor. Rosetta and Ginial dated for a few years. At the age of 18 on August 16, 1947, Rosetta and Ginial married. Rosetta's first job was ironing clothes for different people in the area. She later did day work (when you work and get paid that same day) in the Richmond area. Her close cousin, Ida Mae Smith, worked at the salon and Rosetta cleaned houses. Some days the two of them would go to work and afterward sleep in the car at the Willow Lawn parking lot until it was time to go to their next job. They worked at night at the laundry, ironing sheets and pillowcases. From there, Rosetta also worked at Jarrell's Truck Stop. She stayed there until going to Speed N' Brisco. Over the course of five years of working there, Rosetta worked in all areas of the kitchen, made donuts, and waited tables.

From there, Rosetta's jobs included the Tomato Cannery where she peeled tomatoes by the bucket until the factory was shut down, the Ladder Plant where she resigned after six years to take care of her mother, and Quantico Marine Base where she retired after 20 years of employment as a custodian worker. After her retirement, Rosetta worked a short period for the Caroline County Public School System.

During their 49 years of marriage, Rosetta and Ginial were blessed with 11 children. In addition to raising their children, they enjoyed raising gardens and livestock together. They shared good times and endured the hard times together as one, until Ginial lost his battle with cancer on September 21, 1996. Rosetta was by his side taking care of him until the end.

Rosetta's long life can best be described as one of praise and worship to the Lord, as she loved to sing his praises. In addition to singing on the church choirs, Rosetta sung with the Minor Melodies, and she would join her cousin pianist, Ida Mae Smith, as they ventured to area churches lifting God up through song. Rosetta also had a passion for feeding people. She loved to bless others with food and looked forward to her annual family cookouts just for the opportunity to feed all who would cross her yard.

While Rosetta's life was a blessing, she also endured further heartache with the death of two of her children, Karen Denise Minor and Ginial James Minor, one grandchild (Jessica Minor), and two great grandchildren (Secret Curtis and Cedric Butler).

Rosetta is survived by her nine children, Mary Minor, Roland Minor (Carolyn), Roberta Terrell, Mamie Person (Glenn), Diana Floyd (James), Kenneth Minor (Brenda), Brenda Cary (Robert), Sylvia Montgomery (Timothy), and Prisilla Minor; 24 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a devoted sister-in-law, Mamie Smith, and devoted cousin, Lynn Beanum. Rosetta was particularly appreciative of the dedication of Raymond Winston, Frank Winston, Ka'deem Montgomery, Isaiah Curry, and Christopher Person for always being just a phone call away whenever needed.
