Obituary

Ophelia A. Washington departed this life on June 29, 2025, in peace and comfort of her home surrounded by her children. She was born on August 9, 1936, in Mangohick Virginia to the late James Wirt and Elnora Spurlock.

She was preceded in death by her Grandparents Noble and Silvia Spurlock, devoted and faithful husband George Washington, and two loving Brothers George and Noble Spurlock.

Ophelia joined the Mangohick Baptist Church at an early age and was faithful until her illness. She was a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years under the Leadership of Rev. Philip Cook Jr. and Brother Thomas Taylor. She was the director of the Sunday School trips, plays and loved picking up her Sunday School Girls; Shannon, Demetria, Melissa and Michelle amongst others. Ophelia enjoyed making robes for the Children's Choir. She served on the Board of Social Services, Hamilton-Holmes School PTA, Mattaponi, Baptist General Convention, and VFW Post #9301 where she was a lifetime member.

She received her Education in King William County VA, attended Beverly Allen School in West Point, VA, King William Training School, and proudly at the age of 52 years old received her GED in Henrico County VA, marching in her Cap and Gown at Hermitage High School. She attended J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College pursuing and education in Business.

On November 2, 1957, she was joined in holy matrimony to George Washington. To this union one son was born George Kevin, two daughters, Shelia Marie and Rosetta Renae.

Ophelia was an excellent seamstress and working in the Garment Industry for many years. She retired from Best Product Inc to take care of her Grandson Kenny Jr. She took him to day care one morning and he cried; it melted her heart. Then came Chris, Kalvin and Ian. She later worked at Kings Dominion as a Cake decorator and was fondly called the "Cake Lady".
