Phyllis
Anderson
Mar 19, 1945 — Nov 13, 2025
Phyllis Irene Johnson Anderson was born on March 19, 1945, in Henrico County, Virginia. She was affectionately known by her family as "Mama" and "Nani," reflecting the love and warmth she shared with those around her. She was the only child of the late Robert Henry Johnson and Arlene Jackson Johnson.
From a young age, Phyllis demonstrated a strong spiritual foundation, being baptized early in life. She later became an active member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Glen Allen, Virginia, where she dedicated herself to serving faithfully, particularly as a member of the church choir, contributing to the work of the ministry in many ways.
On November 24, 1961, Phyllis married Wiliam Leroy Anderson, Jr., also of Glen Allen, Virginia. Their union was blessed with four children: William III, David Lynn (married to Nancy), Asalah (married to Yusuf), and Patrice (married to Michael). Her role as a mother was central to her life, and she cherished her family deeply.
Phyllis received her education through Henrico County Public Schools, laying the foundation for her lifelong work ethic. She initially worked as a cashier at Wendy's, where her cheerful demeanor brought joy and laughter to her customers. Later, she transitioned to a career as a bus aide for Henrico County Transportation, where she found fulfillment in working with children with special needs. Her caring nature earned her the affectionate nickname "Nani" from the children she served, a testament to her grandmotherly love and dedication. She retired from her role in 2023, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and service.
Beyond her professional life, Phyllis enjoyed spending quality time with her family, participating in Red Hat Society gatherings, shopping, and worshipping the Lord. Her faith and family were the cornerstones of her life.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Patrice Anderson Lane. She is survived by her devoted sons and daughter, daughter-in-law, Nancy Anderson, and sons-in-law Michael Lane, Sr., and Yusuf El-Fahkri. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren: Landra Williams, John Tabb, Meka Brown, De'Andria Fields, Miyon Fields, Kenya Williams, Jordan Waller, DeVoyae Fields, and Michael Lane, Jr. Additionally, she leaves behind nineteen great-grandchildren, two cherished grand dogs, Nilo and Mila-Rose, and a host of relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
Her lifelong friends Tina Kinney, Mary Burruss, Lillian King, Marilyn Truheart, Sheryl Anderson, and Geraldine Taylor, remember her as funny, kind and loyal. Phyllis Irene Johnson Anderson's life was a testament to love, faith, and service, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
