On Wednesday, January 2, 2019, Raymond L. Derricott entered into eternal rest. He was one of eleven children born on May 8, 1934 to the late Clarence and Elver Derricott. He was marred to the late Lucy Jane Derricott and to this union, six children were born.
He attended the public schools of Hanover County, Virginia, where he graduated in 1953 from John M. Gandy High School.
He was employed by Ashland Roller Mils, now Ashland Milling Co.., from approximately 1958 to 1978. He was then employed by Springhill Nursery where he developed a love for plants and greenery. He was also employed by NAPA, as a driver, until his health failed.
Raymond loved to tell jokes and was always willing to share his humor to all he came in contact with. He was the life of the bus trips on his many excursions to Atlantic City and other venues.
As his health continued to fail and he was no longer able to communicate effectively, this was not a worry to him. He had his own AT&T operator, Faye, who lived across from him. He would walk over to her house several times a day, every day, with his cellphone in hand and she knew he would say, “call Benny or call my daughter.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Jane Derricott and daughter, Tracey Lee Derricott. He leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter, Sandra (Luther) Fleming of Odenton, Maryland; four sons, Randy (Cacheeta) of Parkland, Florida, Robbie (Glenda of Richmond, Virginia, Vincent of Ashland, Virginia and Marvin, Sr. of Richmond, Virginia; nine grandchildren, Alisha, Candice, Traesha, Marvin, Jr. (Todd), Randy, Jr. (Craig), Shawn, Willie, Brittany and Joshua; eleven great-grandchildren, two sisters, Thelma Mack of Norfolk, Virginia and Patricia Cary of Ruther Glen, Virginia; sister-in-law, Helen Derricott of Ruther Glen, Virginia; devoted friend, Helen Fox of Ruther Glen, Virginia and a host of nieces, among them, Delores Derricott (Peanut), whom he helped raised; nephews, other family members and friends.
