Obituary for Rebecca M. Wallace

Rebecca Mae Wallace, went to be with the Lord on October 4, 2018. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. She approached her departure with the same grace and strength that those who love her have become accustomed to seeing.

Rebecca was born in Glen Allen, Virginia on December 20, 1943 to the late Annie Mae and Samuel King. She spent most of her youth with her grandparents, Ida and Arthur Cosby. Growing up at the bottom of Mountain Road, she was surrounded by family. There were wooded paths to the left, right, across from her home, and leading to the top of a hill. Any path she took would lead to cousins to play with and walk alongside, while attending Henrico County Public Schools. The path at the top of the hill led to her first and only love. John Wallace was visiting from Philadelphia, they met and were inseparable from that moment. Their union would span decades.

Rebecca accepted Christ and joined St. Peter Baptist Church at an early age. The custom of the day was to perform baptisms in Echo Lake unless there was inclement weather. It is believed, Reverend Fleming used St. John’s Church in North Richmond to baptize her due to seasonal changes affecting the temperature of the lake. This was her first public step in accepting Christ and professing her belief in life after death. She often stated how much this belief provided comfort to her in difficult times.

After marriage, Rebecca and John moved to Richmond, Virginia. She worked in the home for several years and eventually provided dedicated service to Media General.
Rebecca’s legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of her family and friends. She was quick to offer a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, or a home for those in need of shelter. Rebecca was generous, loving, and kind. She was dedicated to her love ones and often planned events to ensure that the family maintained close ties. Rebecca was loyal and had a way of inspiring loyalty in others. She enjoyed close, enduring friendships with so many. A great testament to the longevity of her friendships are the bonds she shared with Viola Huskerson, Nancy Turner, and Annie Walker which spanned from 40 to 60 years. As her health declined those close to her did not hesitate to visit and phone. She especially looked forward to the daily talks with close relatives Florence Turpin and Corrine Jackson.

Rebecca is survived by her loving husband, John Washington Wallace, children, Theresa Crawley (Kirkland), James Wallace (Betty), John R. Wallace, Rebecca King, and Patricia Wallace, grandchildren, Christopher Wallace, Sr., Jonathan Crawley, Jordan Crawley, Tracy Elder, Steve Anderson, Jr., Jamaya Mills, and Troy Wallace, great- grandchildren, Hamilton Crawley - James, Cidney Wallace, Journey Wallace -Elder, Christopher Wallace, Jr., and Amori Mills, sisters, Annie Belle King and Lorraine Robinson(Samuel), sister in laws, Sarah Emerson (John), Corrine Jackson, Doris Middleton (John), Cathryn Jackson, and Gloria Jackson, three brother in laws, Lee Edward Wallace, Joseph Jackson, and Rudolph Jackson, one goddaughter, Chloe Jones, and a host of devoted cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, Rebecca was preceded in death by her daughter, Cathryn Wallace, and brothers, Raymond King, Sr., and Richard King.

I\\'m sorry to hear about the loss of your loved one. When someone we love dies, it’s natural to want to see that person again. Many have found comfort in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection.

Notice what John 5:28, 29 says, \\"Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.\\"

God gives us such a meaningful hope to look forward to. And in the meantime he also promises us to comfort us in our trials if we go to him in prayer. 2 Cor 1:3 calls him the God of all comfort.

I hope this was comforting to y\\'all. Please go to for more information. Have a nice day.

To the family of Mrs. Rebecca Wallace, I\\'m so very sorry for your loss. Mrs. Rebecca was one of the sweetie people I have ever met. She cared for so many including my family. This photo of her brings back so many happy memories of her in the neighborhood of Creighton Court. I always remember her having a sweet, caring and genuinely lovely spirit and she cared for us as if we were her own. I know without a shadow of a doubt that you all miss her dearly but hold on to your memories and you will get through this difficult time. I rejoice in knowing that we will all see her and our other loved ones again in glory.

With loving care,
