Retired MSG Ernest L. Ford Sr., age 69, of Chesterfield, VA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 14, 2025. Born on September 30, 1956, Ernest was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, whose warmth, humor, and strength touched all who knew him.
At an early age, Ernest accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He was a devoted member of St. James Baptist Church in Beaverdam, VA, until he answered the call to serve in the United States Army. His faith remained a guiding force throughout his life and military service.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Ernest served his country for 23 years with honor and distinction, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. His leadership, dedication, and integrity left a lasting impact on all who served with him.
Ernest was preceded in death by his loving parents, Roy and Dorothy Ford; his brothers, Hampton Ford and Steve Ford; and in-laws Stewart and Janice Twisdale, Barbara Twisdale, and Ryan Twisdale.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Vanessa Ford; and his children: Sherry Mickens-Green, Ernest Ford Jr., Phillip Ford, and Tiffani Mason. He was also a proud father-in-law to Melvin Green, Tyron Mason, Ryan Bridgett and Jessica Ford.
Ernest also lovingly counted those that he regarded as his own children: Jasen Cooper, Rasheena Cotman, Marcus Thomas, Stacie Straus, and Acie Wyatt.
Ernest's greatest joy came from being Papa to his cherished grandchildren: Briana Green (Dashawn Christian), Mekayla Green, Tamia Ford, TJ Mason, Taylor Mason, Olivia Ford, Tori Mason, Jacob Ford, and Noa Ford.
He was a proud grandfather by love to Jalen Williams, Antonio Cotman Jr., Jayla Straus, Mekhi Cotman, Josie Straus, and Tyson Cotman.
He is survived by his loving siblings: Doris Fells (Frank), Roy Ford (Regina), James Ford, Patricia Dabney (David), Carolyn Ford, and Theresa Ancarrow (William); and his sister-in-law, Susan Ford.
Ernest shared a close bond with his aunts Catherine Nelson and Betty Marshall, and his uncle Joseph Terrell
Ernest leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, laughter, and unwavering support. Known for his steady presence, sense of humor, and deep devotion to his family, Ernest will be remembered as the heart of the family and a true example of strength, generosity, and compassion.
Retired MSG Ernest L. Ford Sr. will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
