Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Allen Mills. A beloved husband, father, papa, and friend. He was a devoted family man who leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and resilience. Richard faced his battle with lung cancer with remarkable strength and courage, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dora, father William, brother William Ray Mills, and sister Betty May Gay.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janice, who stood by his side through life's many chapters, and his two daughters, Jessie Stickles (Kevin) and Elizabeth Slaughter (Jonathan), who were a constant source of pride and joy. He was a proud Papa to five cherished grandchildren, Carter, Connor, Cullen, Chace, and Leah, each of whom brought immense happiness to his life. He was also survived by his sister Bertie Ann, along with four sisters-in-law, Jean, Kim, Susan, and Shannon. Three brothers-in-law, Ed, Calvin, and Steve. Plus numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

Richard spent his career as a skilled heavy equipment mechanic, known for his strong work ethic, steady hands, and willingness to help others. He had a true passion for working with his hands, especially when it came to his four-wheelers. Some of his greatest moments were spent tinkering, fixing, and bringing things back to life while teaching his grandson Chace.

More than anything, Richard showed his love through his actions. Whether it was repairing his daughter's cars or making sure his family was taken care of, he gave his love quietly, selflessly,  and wholeheartedly.

He also shared a special bond with his loyal dog, Max, who was his best friend and constant companion.

He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, his kind and giving spirit, and the many ways he showed up for the people he loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
