Saundra Diane
Holmes Dandridge
Feb 9, 1953 — Dec 2, 2025
Richmond
Ms. Saundra Diane Holmes Dandridge
Affectionately known as "Nenni Bug" and "Sandy," of Richmond, Virginia, was born on February 9, 1953, to the late Will Roger Holmes and Ophelia Holmes Hill. On Tuesday evening, December 2, 2025, at the age of 72, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called her home.
Saundra received her education in King William County, Virginia, and later moved to Midlothian, Virginia, where she earned a certificate in Word Processing. At an early age, she accepted Christ at Mangohick Baptist Church in King William, Virginia, where she taught Sunday School for a short time. She later attended Northside Crusaders Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia, alongside her daughter, Shellery.
Saundra worked as a private duty nurse for over 40 years and was most recently employed by Family Lifeline Home Care, where she cared for others with compassion and dedication. She was also a former member of The Order of the Eastern Star (OES) in Ashland, Virginia.
Saundra was a devoted, God-fearing woman who cherished her family above all else. Family always came first for her. She found joy in cooking and sharing the delicious meals she prepared, often creating special dishes requested by loved ones. Her generosity extended beyond her home—neighbors and friends were always welcome at her table.
She had a tender heart for animals, with cats being her favorite. Saundra never turned away a creature in need, even feeding a family of raccoons that visited daily. She often called herself a "bird whisperer," spending time on her back porch talking to birds and enjoying their company. Her daughter lovingly said her home should be called "Sandy's Café." Saundra also had a wonderful sense of humor. One recent moment was when Shellery fell and said, "Man down," and Saundra replied, "Naw… Boots on the Ground," which gave them both the best laugh.
Saundra loved listening to the radio and playing her CDs. She had an extensive vinyl record collection dating back to the 1970s and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles in her spare time. She was also a proud Washington Commanders fan and often wore her Redskins gear around town. Most of her life was spent in Highland Park off Brookland Park Boulevard, where friends lovingly called her "Redskin." She especially cherished riding in the backseat, sitting beside her great-granddaughter Suriyah.
Saundra was preceded in death by her parents, Roger Holmes and Ophelia Hill; her sister, Joyce Holmes Harrington; and her longtime companion, James Johnson.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her devoted children, Shellery Holmes-Tyler (Mark) and Russell Dandridge Jr.; seven grandchildren, Saveon Tyler, Ieisha Harris, Amiya Harris, Dominick Harris, Tyshae Harris, Russhawn Dandridge, and Brianna Harris; four great-grandchildren, Suriyah Tyler, Zyla Cameron, Onyx Cameron, and Kasoni Harris; one bonus great-grandson, Sebastian Cameron; thirteen siblings, Wayne Holmes, Carlton Holmes (Ellen), Veronica Pollard (John), George Holmes (Darlene), Phyllis Branch (Harrison), Tony Holmes, Barbara Wilkerson (Ricky), Hope Simms, Melissa Murphy (Larry), Kevin Peatross (Chantel), Michael Peatross (Amy), Tina Curtis, and Keith Smithers (Stephanie); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Saundra's life was a beautiful reflection of faith, love, and kindness. Her memory will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
