Wallace L.
Jackson
Feb 16, 1942 — Jan 19, 2026
Caroline County
Wallace Lee Jackson was born on February 16, 1942, in Sumpter, South Carolina, to the late Robert and Margie Jackson. After a life of service, devotion, and quiet strength, God called him home January 19, 2026.
Affectionately known as "Jack," Wallace was the very definition of a gentleman. He possessed a commanding presence, and even as a young man, his voice carried wisdom and confidence. He was always impeccably dressed—known for his tailored suits and signature Stacy Adams shoes—presenting himself with dignity and pride wherever he went.
Jack was deeply devoted to family and the ties that bind. He shared a special bond with his siblings, the late Joyce McCrae and his devoted sister, Martha Rae Leach. Having lost their parents at an early age, Jack felt a lifelong responsibility to protect and care for his sisters, a role he carried with love and honor.
A man of faith, Jack attended Sandy Grove Baptist Church in Lumberton, North Carolina, where he remained grounded in God's word and teachings. He faithfully participated in Sunday School, BTU, and worship services, carrying those lessons with him throughout his life.
Jack was educated at J.H. Haywood High School, where he excelled as a football player, earning the nickname "Stonewall Jackson." A lifelong sports enthusiast, his love for athletics never faded. Following high school, Jack volunteered for service in the United States Army, embarking on a distinguished military career that spanned twenty-five years. He proudly attained the rank of Master Sergeant and received numerous medals and awards in recognition of his dedication and valor. His service took him across the world, including assignments in Vietnam, Germany, Thailand, Japan, and other locations. Jack loved sharing stories of his military experiences—especially when meeting fellow veterans—his eyes lighting up as memories and camaraderie flowed freely.
Beyond his service, Jack found peace and joy in fishing for hours at a time and had an immense love for history. One could ask him almost anything about the past, and he would eagerly share his knowledge, as studying history was one of his favorite pastimes.
Jack was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Gerti Lewis-Jackson, with whom he shared 23 years of marriage. Through this union, he became a caring stepfather to Will Lewis Jr. and Sierra Lewis. Jack and Gertrude shared a closeness and bond that many admired, even if few fully understood—it was uniquely theirs and deeply cherished.
Wallace Lee Jackson leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Gertrude Lewis-Jackson; his children: Judy Taylor Orrum of North Carolina, Harry Jackson of Petersburg, Virginia, Ronchetta Jackson of Disputanta, Virginia, Will Lewis Jr. of Caroline County, Virginia, and Sierra Lewis of Richmond, Virginia; his devoted sister, Martha Leach of Brooklyn, New York; father in law John Cox of Goochland, Virginia;17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He also leaves an enduring legacy of love with his nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends. Jack's presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.
