William Hopkins
Jr
Dec 4, 1955 — Jan 28, 2026
Henrico
Mr. William Thomas Hopkins Jr., affectionately known as "Beanie," of Richmond, Virginia, was born on December 4, 1955, to the late Reverend Ethel M. Murphy and William T. Hopkins.
Beanie received his education through the Henrico County and Richmond Public School Systems. At an early age, he accepted Christ and became a member of Moore Street Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia.
From a young age, Beanie displayed a caring spirit and a deep love for family. He lovingly helped care for his younger siblings and later moved in with his great-grandmother, Ethel Howard, as a teenager to assist in caring for her. Around the age of 15, he connected with one of the neighbors in Central Gardens, who began teaching him the trade of being an electrician.
Beanie had a passion for motorcycles and enjoyed taking his son Marlon on rides when he was young. He loved telling stories reminiscing of the old days, especially of the times he lived off Clay Street and the love of his life Gloria Kemp.
He was hardworking and always willing to lend a hand. He could often be found helping his landlord cut grass, creating memorials with solar lights, or tending to the flowers he proudly planted. Beanie also created his own "man cave," where he enjoyed relaxing and listening to music.
On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the age of 70, Beanie was called home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Reverend Ethel M. Murphy; his father, William T. Hopkins; his uncle, Author Lee Jackson; his brother, Tyrone Hopkins; his sister, Patricia Hopkins; grandmother, Martha Dockery and his great‑grandmother, Ethel Howard.
Beanie leaves behind a legacy of love and treasured memories. He is survived by his father, William Larry Murphy; his children, Marlon Kemp (Tara) and Cora Harmon; his grandchildren, Marshelle Kemp, Shaunda Kemp, Sha'Tara Coffey, and Jehlani Taylor. He is also remembered by his sisters, Peggy Peyton (Melvin Jr.) and Angela Murphy; his devoted brother, Larry Murphy (Melissa); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all of Beanie's friends and neighbors for their kindness and support. A special expression of gratitude is given to Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie and Noelle Smith‑Harris for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Beanie.
Beanie will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
